The Hewlett Packard Enterprise approach to inventory

The network is the truth
While legacy inventory systems are repositories to store the representation of the network data obtained from various sources, we turn the story around. For Hewlett Packard Enterprise, the network is the trusted source of information as it provides most of the information required to build a resource inventory. From the network elements, we can collect not only the physical information about the device, but also its configuration information, which specifies the relationship between all the NEs. Analysing this "Active Data", we are able to discover the services running on the network, implementing "Service Stitching". It mainly consists in collating the information from the disparate network elements to show the end-to-end service.
Iterative approach for Service Stitching
There are always some data that cannot be discovered, like for example layouts of the buildings, distribution frames, etc. These "Passive Data" is obtained from external systems. Because HPE Trueview decouples active and passive data, a delivery project does not need to wait until all data have been migrated before it can be brought into operation. In addition, the overall migration process will be much quicker and data quality errors fewer and therefore cleansing data less of a risk.
Eliminate complex modeling
HPE Trueview implements out-of-the-box most common network technology models and algorithms as defined by the international standards (ITU-T, ETSI, and IETF) and used by Network Equipment Providers (NEPs) to ensure interoperability. This approach allows to dramatically reduce the time to implement solutions while keeping the ability to adapt the model to your specific needs, using user-defined attributes.
