Media server and VAS - Status and trends

Communications service providers (CSPs) are under increasing pressure from over the top (OTT) players that offer similar, often better services outside the core of the telecom network and without ties to a specific CSP.
Though the revenue from traditional voice services are in decline, voice is still a mandatory offering from CSPs for the foreseeable future. To stay relevant and keep subscriber loyalty, not only must these services be retained but they must also offer HD voice and video calls seamlessly over Long Term Evolution (LTE) and voice over Wi-Fi (VoWifi) networks.
The way to achieve this is by deploying voice and video services in an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) service architecture. Within IMS, the Media Resource Function (MRF) is a mandatory, standardized function that manages all real-time media (voice and video) processing.
