Implementing Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Defender Device Guard and Defender Credential Guard on HPE ProLiant servers

1.0 Introduction

With the release of Windows Server 2019, Microsoft has updated some of the terminology and associated definitions around the Device Guard and Credential Guard technology. Refer to this link for the Windows Server 2016 version of this document. While the underlying technology has not changed, Microsoft has redefined Device Guard as Windows Defender Device Guard and it is described as a security lockdown state instead of a feature. A similar concept applies to Windows Defender Credential Guard as well.
This document will provide the user with a clear overview of the fundamentals and details of implementing Windows Defender Device Guard and Windows Defender Credential Guard with HPE ProLiant Servers hardware and Windows Server 2019 software.
