Product brief

Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Syntax

The largest distributor of electricity and natural gas in the Northeastern United States, National Grid is pioneering new ways to deliver smarter, cleaner energy solutions for the 21st century. Its mission-critical SAP back-end platform with leasing and indirect property taxation, however, was distributed over multiple service providers and ran on an aging, inflexible IT infrastructure. To transform and consolidate its technology systems, National Grid turned to HPE partner, Syntax, to provide SAP-managed services in a fully managed, secure, and extraordinarily agile private cloud solution built on SAP-certified HPE compute and storage.

Headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts, National Grid United States operates more than 9000 miles of electricity transmission and delivers electricity and natural gas to customers in Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island. Its parent, National Grid plc, is a British multinational electricity and gas utility. Company is also undergoing upcoming journey to transform its customer billing systems into SAP-focused landscape in the coming year.

Business goals

Through IT infrastructure investments, energy efficiency, and economic development, National Grid is transforming its electricity and natural gas networks to support the 21st century digital economy with smarter, cleaner, and more resilient energy solutions. The company aimed to modernize its aging IT systems for cost-efficiency and agility to enable faster development of new products and services while meeting stringent regulatory and security requirements.
